Located in Sportsman Park, Shenandoah

Morning Star Schoolhouse

Morning Star School, also known as the Bright School, District No. 5, Walnut Township, Fremont County, Iowa, was one of seven country schools in Walnut Township. On the 21st of March 1883, J. H. Bright and his wife Mary deeded, for the sum of $35.00, to "Dis. Twp. of Walnut one square acre (including the Public Highway) with the condition that said premises is to be used for a school house site and for school purposes."

The schoolhouse was built on that site within the next couple of years. It was located at the northwest corner of the acre and faced the west. There was a log cabin fence along the north and west boundaries; farm fences were along the east and south boundaries.

The last school term was 1947-1948. On October 23, 1992 the Morning Star School was moved to Sportsman Park in Shenandoah where it was restored.
